Learning It My Way - II
In the second part of the blog we will talk about the VARK Model which includes the learning styles explained in the first part of LEARNING IT MY WAY-I.
The Visual, Auditory & Kinesthetic learning styles are found within educational theorist Neil Fleming’s VARK model of Student Learning.
VARK is an acronym that refers to the four types of learning styles: Visual, Auditory, Reading/Writing Preference, and Kinesthetic. (The VARK model is also referred to as the VAK model, eliminating Reading/Writing as a category of preferential learning.)
The VAK theory recognises that -
- Learners’ preferred learning modes have significant influence on their behavior and learning
- These preferred learning modes should be matched with appropriate learning strategies.
Information that is accessed through learners’ use of their modality preferences show an increase in their levels of comprehension, motivation and meta cognition.
Identifying learners as visual, auditory, reading/writing or kinesthetic learners, and aligning overall curriculum with these learning styles, will prove to be beneficial for the entire classroom. Allowing learners to access information in terms they are comfortable with will increase their academic confidence.
The VAK model of teaching-learning process is the way of the progressive and futuristic education. We at PICT Model School have incorporated the VAK model of teaching to ensure that our students become Learners for Life!!! It has been rightly said that ‘learning how to learn is the most important skill of life’ and PICT Model School will teach the students how to do it best.
