The Joy of Reading
The Joy of Reading
“There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.”

Reading gives us a place to go, when we have to stay where we are. Isn’t it wonderful to get beautifully lost in the kingdoms of kings and queens, dragons and warriors, mountains and beaches, just with a turn of a page. The truth is, everyone is a reader they just haven’t found the right book yet. English dictionary defines ‘Reading’ as a skill and we couldn’t agree more!
Reading is an addiction for some whereas a compulsion for others. It is either appreciated very much or hardly at all, there is often no between. Especially for children, it is something they start at school during their english lessons, wherein they are introduced to a whole new concept of sitting down at a desk and repeat a few lines with the teacher. And as time passes only a few of them love to sit by themselves and read books for the pleasure of it. The others however have a different lookout to fulfill this need.
“There are many little ways to enlarge your child’s world. Love of books is the best of all.”
– Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis

The habit of reading must be inculcated in children from the very beginning, they must be given a story or two per week to get accustomed to this habit. They can then be given a book containing a collection of stories and then finally a novel. It will be a little difficult at the start for kids to comprehend the meaning, story line, dialogues etc. but this can be solved by teaching them how to use a dictionary.
The benefits of reading are not hidden from us! It helps the children by means of:
- Mental Stimulation
- Stress Reduction
- Vocabulary Expansion
- Memory Development
- Improved focus
- Better Writing Skills etc.
